Anish’s Daily Journal

I am excited for this project. I think this project will help me understand the issue of homelessness deeply.I have great group members, who work hard and we have high expectations from each other. My group is working with the Sacramento Children’s home and I think it is a great place to work at. I love working with children, and I am excited to be working with Children’s Home. I think this project will be fun to work and my group will do a great job.

I have been assigned to do the logistics role, which means I will call the organization and try to fix an appointment for the site visit. I think this role suits me because I have done phone banking before, which makes it easier for me to take this role. But, I still need some practice because I don’t know if I will get the answer that I am looking for. I will try to be loud and clear and make sure that I give them the full details and don’t miss out any of our details and objectives.
10/25
Today I called the organization to set up a date for the site visit. A lady at the front desk answered the phone and transferred me to John Glass. Unfortunately, John was not available to answer so I left a message explaining the details about our visits and objectives. But, I missed a few details like how many people are going to visit the place and I had to calculate the date right there. I was not well prepared, so I learned a valuable lesson that I should always be prepared before I call someone.

I have a lot of assignments to complete and I find it really hard to keep up with them. Especially the journals, they are really hard to fill in. I don’t know what to write. I think the journal is holding me back because I have to keep filling the journals. I don’t have anything to write today because I am really busy, working on the website. I still have to work on the logistics part of the website. And, I think the group is falling behind because of my lack of work.
10/28
I am disappointed because me any my group cannot go do a site visit and volunteer for Sacramento Children’s Home. Site visit was one of the reason I was excited about this project. But now that we cannot do it, I feel down. I think this will affect my outcome for the project. But I don’t want to let it bother me. I don’t really understand why we high school students cannot go and volunteer at the Children’s home, but adults can. I think my group members are also disappointed for missing the chance to volunteer at the Children’s home.

We had our vocabulary quiz today, and i did good at it. The vocabulary quiz help me learn new words that I can use in the project. Our detailed history and the skeleton of the website with 40% of content in it. I am trying to complete my journals but I haven’t upload it on the website yet, because they are short and I need to add more. The website does not have 40% yet and I am afraid that we will not get grade for the assignment because it is not complete.
10/30
Ms. B gave us feedback on our website and published the grades. We did not get good grades at all. Ms. B told us that the logistics part on the website was missing. I was suppose to complete that part, but I did not know about that. So, I tried to finish it before Ms. B graded it, but I couldn’t, so we didn’t get any grades. It was all my fault that the group didn’t get any grade. Now I will make sure that I complete each and every work assigned to me.

Laura is working on the interview questions, but we don’t know how are we going to interview a worker there. We will try to send them an email with all the interview question and see if they can reply us back through email. I don’t think interviewing the volunteers or workers through an email is a good idea because we will not be able to explain our questions and get as much information as we can. So, I think we have a disadvantage there, which might affect our final product and our grades.
11/11
I got the interview answers from Judy through the email. She answered most of the questions, but I think they are a little short. But, we will try our best to use it more as much information as we can in the website. I forwarded the email to my group members, but i don’t know if they will look their email because it is a holiday today. I feel much relieved now because I was worried about the interview questions. It was really hard to get in touch with them and get the information. But now that we have it, I think we can complete the project on time.
11/12
We are finally done with the project. It was really difficult, especially because we couldn’t arrange a site visit and understand more about the organization. All of our understanding about the organization and the problems faced by the children there came from the website, or the secondary sources. We didn’t get to see the place, or how the children lived there, so we don’t really know what actually goes on in there. I had to depend on the websites and online resources for the information. I think that didn’t make any difference. I wanted to go visit the place and talk to the people and understand about the problems in depth. This project helped me understand the problem of homelessness only a little more than what I already knew. It didn’t expand my views and knowledge on the problem that much.
