October 23, Wednesday
I am excited for the project; our group was assigned to our second choice of charities. For our project we will create a campaign for the Sacramento Children's home. Today we are assigning roles to each other and reviewing the outline. I picked the history of the home. I will also be helping with the logistics of the project. Tomorrow we will call the home.
October 24, Thursday
Today we reviewed the deliverable and tagged deadlines to each one. We attempted to contact the home however we were sent to voice mail. We also emailed on of the directors at the home and have yet to receive a response. Tomorrow we will be trying again. I started the history outline and researched any articles that could help provide a better description of what the home used to be.
October 28, Monday
We have yet to receive a response from anyone at the school. This puts a delay in completing our deliverable questions. I am working on the history category and on the Sacramento Children's Home website the information is limited. I am searching for articles that could give some insight on the past of the orphanage and there aren't any. Our group is experiencing major conflicts.
October 30, Wednesday
Today we received an email response from Schefer. Ms. Schefer is the volunteer coordinator at the Sacramento Children’s home and she informed us that high school students are not allowed to volunteer. She told us that there are around 30 boys that stay at the home; the home is now a residential treatment center for boys that have failed in their foster homes due to social and anger issues. We are continuing to build the website though it is lacking a lot of information. We spoke with Mrs. B and Kennedy today and they said they will get the details of the home and how we can help.
November 1, Friday
Today we were sent a holiday wish list for the home’s nursery. We are devising a plan where we can still get community points without volunteering at the home. We were also sent a “gift suggestion” list. Our group is putting up flyers around the school and running a short donation drive of the course of the next week. We plan to collect the donations next Friday. I am still disappointed that we are not able to volunteer at the home.
November 4, Monday
I emailed all the advisers and sent a copy of the wish list. Tomorrow we are speaking in Baker's advisory to elaborate more on why we are having the drive. We are putting put boxes and signs. I am hoping we receive a good amount of donations. We also created a document that we will send to Ms Schefer. The document is made up of all driving questions that we are not able to answer on our own.
November 5, Tuesday
We received our first bag of donations day. In the bag there was pancake mix, syrup, napkins, etc. Laura and I are also speaking in Baker's advisory today about our project. I thought there would be more than donation today but I will have to have more patience since it is only the first day. I am afraid that we might not meet the deliverable for the project. The few of us that have unanswered driving questions uploaded them onto the document. Anish should be emailing it today.
November 6, Wednesday
Today we are having a combined lunch so I am hoping with the school spirit we are able to get other students' attention. We still do not have any more donations. We are cleaning up the website (format, grammar, etc). I have not been notified on the response to our document. I am very doubtful. I will be able to make my own donation this weekend.
November 8, Friday
I was not able to attend school yesterday so I had my hopes up today. I was hoping that we would have more donations and a response by today. Unfortunately there haven't been any donations. Also, today I found out the document that has our unanswered driving questions was not sent until yesterday. The response that we have received from Ms. Schefer said that she wasn't going to be in the office until Monday. I made sure that Anish sent an email to Ms. Schefer asking what time on Tuesday she will be available so we can drop off the donations.
