Edward Rios' Journals
10/23
Going to the homeless shelter does seem easy to prepare for, although the preparation process seems very long from the assigned dates. We’re given a lot of excess time of 3 weeks for this entire project, even though this could take at most 2 weeks. This is also a good opportunity to fill in some volunteer hours at the homeless shelter for our graduation.
10/28
We’ve planned the interview questions. We’ve called the shelter for dates we can visit. We’ve finished writing down interview questions. We still continue finding more ideas and the research for our project. Still listing any extra interview questions that may be needed.
10/29
We contacted the shelter today for questioning the children, and their staff. We’re still coming up with more ideas and research for our project. It’s very difficult to make a date when we’ll be going in the shelter for a visit. Although, I am hopeful to finish this project.
10/31
Currently having difficulties, the shelter emailed us back saying since we’re high school students we’re unable to ask questions to anyone at the shelter.
11/4
Throughout this project we’ve found that we’ll be emailing the director at the Sacramento Children’s Home for our interview/site visit at the home. I’m personally not allowed to record the children even though I’m 18 in 2 days as the children are under liability. We’ll also not be volunteering although we’re able to contribute time by doing a “Teddy bear drive” for homeless children at the school for our volunteer time, we’ll be doing a “Garden supplies drive” though instead of the “Teddy bear drive”.
11/5
Tomorrow is my birthday when I turn 18. We’re still planning out the “Garden supplies drive”. I’m concerned that I won’t get all the information for the website on time.
11/6
Today is my birthday and I turned 18. We’re going to resend the interview questions to the woman we’re speaking to at the children’s home for all our questions. Website information will be based on that interview so until we get a reply through email there will be no way that the website is finished. The Garden supplies drive is being organized still, but we’re still not decided yet. We’ve spoken to Isaiah about not being on task and plagiarizing.
11/7
We have 4 more days to finish this project, we’re currently putting all our work into this to finish the project. The work that we have assembled is in a google doc that were are going to be put into our interview questions. Our final product will more than likely be finished by Monday for the presentation. While everyone will learn their part of the product to present on Tuesday. We’re going to organize a last day “Teddy Bear Drive” to finish our volunteer hours and deposit the Teddy Bears at the Sac Children’s home.
11/8
We have 3 more days to finish this project. We’re currently doing the final touches to this final product. The Toy Drive is going on right now as I type this, and everything is going underway. We’re organizing a day that we drop off the toys to the shelter more than likely on Tuesday because the person we’re talking to is at the shelter on Mondays. We’re now creating thank-you cards to the shelter for Judy to speaking to us.
11/12
We’re getting ready for presentation day as tomorrow is the presentation. We’re also organizing the time today that we’re going to drop off the toys for our teddy bear drive to the shelter. Everyone seems to be ready for the final presentation although we still do not have a site visit, we still have done everything that was possible. Also, Judy Schefer replied to our email yesterday which filled in my economics part of the final presentation. My email wasn’t fully answered but I guess answering “Funded by the government if the funding fluctuates” is an okay answer, although I wanted whether it was State or Federal funding.
